MAYA
Maya grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where her love for animals and the earth started early. From rescuing stray cats with her mom and helping with neighborhood TNR projects, she saw firsthand how many animals needed care, safety, and compassion. That’s where the dream began, to build a sanctuary where animals could heal and thrive.
She’s always recognized the need for accessible veterinary care through her own rescue work and from seeing the contrast between animal welfare in New York and Puerto Rico, where her family is from, and where so many dogs live without the care they deserve. Maya’s long-term goal has always been to build two connected rescues: a cat sanctuary in New York and a dog rescue in Puerto Rico. Though not fully realized yet, every day brings her closer to that vision through continued learning, planning, and outreach.
Today, Maya works at a non-profit in NYC, spending her days with her pets that she has with Matt. She channels that same compassion and curiosity into building Moore Farm, a future homestead rooted in sustainability, healing, and connection. She hopes to blend her background in animal care, her love of baking, and her creative spirit into a space that nurtures both animals and people alike.
MATT
Matt grew up in Brooklyn, New York, but spent much of his childhood traveling upstate, where he fell in love with nature’s peace and simplicity. Those early memories left a lasting impression, sparking a deep appreciation for the calm and creativity that come from being surrounded by the natural world. He’s always known he’d find his way back to the woods someday, to a quieter life where he could build, grow, and create with his own hands.
A hands-on creator at heart, Matt is an artist, builder, and problem-solver who finds purpose in bringing ideas to life. Whether he’s crafting something from wooden pallets or sketching a new design, his creativity flows into everything he does. He dreams of one day having a workshop on the farm, a space where craftsmanship and nature meet, and where others can find inspiration to create with purpose.
Today, Matt works as clinic staff at a local hospital, spending his days grounded, patient, and endlessly supportive. Matt brings balance and optimism to every step of the journey. His care for animals and people alike is at the core of who he is, and he shares Maya’s belief that this dream, no matter how long it takes, is worth every bit of effort.

Together, they’re preparing for the next chapter — learning the skills, saving the funds, and building the foundation for the homestead they’ll one day call home. Each day is a step toward that goal, and they’re sharing the journey as it unfolds — from the first plans to the final planting.
