The Foundation Stage
Starting something from scratch feels heavy in it’s first steps. You dream, you plan, you research, and yet nothing quite prepares you for how hard it is to make a dream real.
That’s where we are right now.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt this pull toward the land and Mother Earth; the idea of building something rooted in love, sustainability, and community. A place where animals are safe, people reconnect with nature, and healing happens in the simplest ways. A place with good food and quiet moments, where the stars come out at night.
We have talked about this for years now; the kind of life that feels intentional. We’ve both spent so much time in the city, dreaming about open space, fresh air, and meaningful work. The homestead isn’t just about farming or animals, even though that’s a big part of it. It’s about creating a sanctuary. A place where people, animals, and the land can exist in harmony.
Trying to start a homestead means balancing big dreams with very real obstacles: money, timing, zoning, resources, PATIENCE. There have been moments where I questioned everything. We’ve had to pivot our plans more times than we can count. There are days when it feels like we’re taking one step forward but end up ten steps behind. Still, something deeper keeps pushing us onward, this feeling that it’s supposed to happen, and it’s going to happen, even if it takes time.
Right now, we’re still in the “foundation” stage: researching and planning for what will one day be our farm and sanctuary. It’s frustrating to not be there yet, but I’m learning that even the waiting is part of the process. Everything happens in the time it is meant to.
If you’ve ever dreamed of starting your own version of “something more,” connecting with the land, or helping animals, I hope you’ll follow along. We’re just planting the first seed, and I have a little feeling it’s going to grow into something incredible.
