5 Acres, 1 Day, & a Stack of Papers

If you had told us 2 years ago that we’d be spending a random weekday driving four hours out of New York City just to sign a stack of papers and drive right back, we probably would have just laughed at you.

But this week, that’s exactly what we’re doing. 

We are finally closing on our 5 acres in Upstate New York!

It feels completely surreal to actually say that out loud. For years, this has been a vision locked away in notebooks and late-night conversations. A dream of community-centered and sustainable agriculture and animal rescue, and a quiet sanctuary. We’ve visualized the future, but before any of those seeds can be planted, we have to lay the foundation. And this week, the foundation gets real.

Our trip upstate is going to be a total whirlwind. Aside from the overnight drive into the 10AM closing appointment, our first order of business is checking on the land itself. Upstate got hit with some heavy storms recently, and since the existing structure on the property is already pretty rough, we’re heading straight over to see what the weather left behind.

This trip is the literal line in the sand for us. It’s the moment we pivot from "planning and researching" to "doing."

The timeline ahead of us is massive, chaotic, and incredibly exciting. Up next, we’ll be navigating a Skoolie/RV conversion as our transitional housing, clearing the lot, putting in a driveway, and starting the slow, intentional process of building our permanent homestead from scratch.

We are so incredibly grateful to finally be taking this leap, and we are officially bringing you all along for the ride; the raw moments, the storm damage, the building milestones, and everything in between.
